The blind will be able to “see” the Shroud thanks to an
aluminium model that will help them to get close to the linen and
understand the details of the image. For the Exposition 2000 Apri
(Associazione piemontese retinopatici e ipovedenti - Piedmontese
association for people with eye disabilities) presented a project to
the diocesan Commission for the exposition of the Shroud, planning
special arrangements for the pilgrims who have eye problems Before the
end of July, Casa di carità Arti e Mestieri will create a
three-dimensional life-size model representing the front image of the
man of the Shroud, for the Diocesan Commission.
The model will be placed in the room that precedes the Exposition:
people with eye problems will be able to explore the model with their
hands and they will receive explanations about the details of the
image. They will be accompanied by Apri volunteers and by the
volunteers of the Exposition, who will attend a special course.
The service will be provided on reservation (011.5215960),
preferably on Wednesday afternoons (day reserved for people with
disabilities) but also on other days of the week. In this case, you
will have to give notice in advance. Apri was founded in 1990 by a
group of people with pigmentous retinitis and by a group of young eye
doctors, to promote scientific research on eye illnesses and to inform
the public about problems and origins of eye disabilities. The
association includes about 200 members and has just given birth to
some initiatives to make the city and its buildings accessible to
people with disabilities.
