DEAR BISHOPS AND ARCHBISHOPS
OF OUR SISTER CHURCHES ALL OVER THE WORLD
We are writing to you once again (as we did in the autumn of 1996) to announce
the exposition of the Shroud which will be celebrated by the Church of Turin,
as the Pope wishes,
from 12th August to 22nd October of the year 2,000.
The exposition will have an even more universal nature than last years
as it will be, in its own right, part of the Great Jubilee of all the Church. In the
particular climate of the Jubilee, the pilgrimage to the Shroud will be proposed as
a powerful experience of repentance and conversion, according to the teachings of
the Tertio millennio adveniente and the Bull
Incarnationis Mysterium.
In keeping with the Jubilee, the great signs of the pilgrimage and of
the passage through the door will be there, which in Turin Cathedral will be the passage
before the Shroud which bears witness to the suffering of Jesus crucified.
We are sending this letter very early on to the Pastors of all the diocese in
the world, and to the local pilgrimage organisations, so as to provide the best
possible conditions for the Shroud to be a true Church event. And the Church of
Turin wishes to give you a brotherly welcome, something more than an ordinary
tour. The diocese committee is therefore preparing a services network to
welcome pilgrimages organised by diocese, parishes, religious communities, and
associations accompanying the sick and disabled. These services cover both the
booking of the visit to the Shroud and the organisation of board and lodging and transport
to Turin for those who request it.
We invite you to contact our reception services in the months to come
at the General Secretariat for the Exposition:
via XX Settembre 87, 10122 Turin (Italy)

We also remind you that the official Internet site offers information about the Shroud,
the exposition and scientific and iconographic research:

We look forward to meeting you in Turin, and we send you our best wishes
for a very happy Easter,
Yours faithfully,
